Sherri Ann Clark Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is presented in the memory of Sherri Ann Clark. Sherri was a swimmer and team captain at Smoky Hill and who tragically passed away during her freshman year at the University of Colorado. Sherri was a leader in the pool and a mentor to younger swimmers. This award was established by Sherri’s parents after her death in 1985, and is presented annually in her memory to an exceptional aquatic athlete who has displayed outstanding leadership to younger swimmers, inspired their teammates, and who has performed strongly in the pool and in the classroom. The scholarship will be used to aid in this individual’s future education. Past winners of this award have gone on to serve as team captains at Notre Dame, Northwestern, Princeton, Texas Christian, Indiana, Claremont McKenna, Ohio University and the University of California at Berkeley.
Congratulations to this year’s winner, Katie Power.
Katie is a four year varsity letter winner in the pool and served as Team Captain her senior season. Katie is a National Academic All-American, First Team Academic All State, Smoky Hill Student Body Vice-President and Smoky Hill’s Homecoming Queen. In the pool, Katie swam in the 5A CHSAA State Championship finals six times over the past three seasons. She is one of the best relay swimmers in Smoky Hill swimming history. Most importantly, Katie is extraordinarily genuine and kind. Her teammates love her and she loves them. She is a tremendous leader both by example and through her constant support of her teammates. Katie understands that the star of the team is the team and she sets the example of this everyday through her work ethic and passion for her team. Katie will be greatly missed both in and out of the pool at Smoky Hill.
