Performing Arts

Smoky Hill’s ​Performing Arts Departments recognizes and celebrates the remarkable creativity, talent, and skill that our students demonstrate both in the classroom and on display for an audience to enjoy.

Our band & orchestra directors would like to recognize excellent students for the following awards:

The Patrick S. Gilmore award ​was introduced in 1994, and serves to recognize outstanding band students for their contributions to their school music programs in the areas of leadership, servitude and superior musicianship skills. This year the award is presented to ​Abby Taylor

The​ LOUIS ARMSTRONG JAZZ BAND AWARD was ​introduced in 1974, and honors outstanding jazz students for superior musicianship, leadership, dependability and creativity in jazz improvisation. This year the award is presented to​ Ryan Auld

The ​SEMPER FIDELIS’ AWARD FOR MUSICAL EXCELLENCE ​is presented by the United States Marine Corps Youth Foundation and the Marine Corps League in recognition of diligence, dedication and music excellence as performing high school band members. This year the award is presented to ​Kat Elgersma and Nick Sprinkle

Since its inauguration in 1954, The ​JOHN PHILIP SOUSA BAND AWARD​ has been given to thousands of outstanding high school band students across the nation in recognition of superior musicianship, leadership, dependability, and loyalty. This year, the award is presented to ​Colby Powers

The ​NATIONAL SCHOOL ORCHESTRA AWARD​ was introduced in 1968, to honor and recognize a senior member of the high school orchestra for their superior musicianship and contributions to the ensemble. This year's recipient is ​Alexis Lee

The ​SHHS ORCHESTRA CITIZENSHIP AWARD​ honors a graduating senior member of the orchestra for outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to serving the community through performance. This year's recipient is ​Marisson Conn

The Theatre Arts Program has selected two students to receive the ​THESPIAN AWARD ​for excellence in theatre ​and in the classroom.

Alicia Dante

Laurel Grosz​.

Laurel Grosz – has been involved in every main stage theatre production her four years at Smoky.  She is very involved in choir, making all-state this year, and is the 19-20 Drama Club president.  She is going to University of Northern Colorado in Greeley next year, and aspires to become a theatre teacher!

 

Alicia Dante – has been involved all four years with the drama program, usually behind the scenes as a Techie, and was the Costume Head for this year’s musical Chicago.  She has directed two plays, including I Hate Shakespeare in the Fall, and plans to study Applied Math at Colorado School of Mines next year!

Smoky Hill’s Dance Program has selected one student to receive the ​2020 DANCE AWARD​.

Andrea Mancera ​has dedicated their time, energy and passion to creating an inclusive dance community at Smoky Hill. They have encouraged their peers, provided support and guidance, and shown leadership and creativity.
