Athletic Department Awards
In the realm of athletics, we honor students each year for their achievements both as athletes and as scholars.
The Smoky Hill High School Leadership Award is presented to a male and female student athlete selected by the Smoky Hill head coaches for displaying courage. poise, self-confidence and leadership.. This year's awards go to Chase Lyons (Football, Lacrosse and Unified) and Cameron Lyons (Softball & Unified). The Lyons’ twins both served as positive role models and emotional leaders on all of the teams they played for Smoky Hill.
The Head Coaches at Smoky Hill High School would also like to recognize student athletes for their athletic achievements.
First, the athletic department would like to acknowledge the following students for outstanding achievement in a single sport: Quinten Rock, Blythe Iverson and Yasmine Ybarra Lemus
Quinten Rock is a four year starting point guard for the boys basketball team. He led the Buffs to four sweet 16 and two great 8 appearances. Q was voted 1st Team all Centennial League and 2nd Team All Colorado his season year.
Blythe Iverson is a four year Colorado state qualifier for the Water Buffaloes. She was a state Championship Finalist in the 500 Freestyle three times, including both her freshman and Senior seasons. She finishes her career in the pool as one of the best distance freestyle swimmers in Smoky Hill History.
Yasmine Ybarra Lemus was a star on the softball field for the Buffaloes. She led the team to two state tournaments and holds the team record for the most homeruns in a season. Feared at the plate, the all-state performer came through with clutch hits all year.
For outstanding achievement in multiple sports the athletic department would like to honor:
Katie Power and Vincent King
Katie was a four year letter winner in both Cross Country and Swimming. Katie ran varsity cross country all four years for the Buffaloes. She starred in the pool for the Buffaloes, swimming in the Colorado state finals six times over the past three years.
Vincent was a huge reason for the turnaround of the Buffaloes on the football field. He led the Buffalos on defense to two consecutive undefeated seasons. Vincent is also a member of the Buffalo Lacrosse team as well as being a huge part of the Unified Basketball team.
